Fighting out of the Cape Cod Fighting Alliance, Christian Morecraft is a gigantic heavyweight prospect competing in the UFC. Standing 6’6” tall and fighting at the very end of the division’s weight limit, Morecraft possesses excellent height and size. Despite entering the sport without the benefit of a strong base, Morecraft has enjoyed a successful start to his fighting career which includes a win over standout New England wrestling product Lee Beane.

Morecraft is an aggressive striker who possesses surprising cardio given his mammoth size. He doesn’t hesitate in pulling the trigger in the exchange, and will close the distance to force his opponent to trade standing. Equipped with good punching power, Morecraft possesses good reach and a big right hand. He shows intelligence in the clinch, and given his size and power needs to be respected any time the fight is being contested on the feet. On occasion Morecraft does get sloppy with his technique (usually when putting his punches together) resulting in loopy, wild punches thrown with his chin exposed. This predisposition has been capitalized on by fighters in the past (see bout with Stefan Struve) so Morecraft would be well served by continuing to tighten up his defense and technical knowledge.

To get his opponent to the ground Morecraft uses his striking to close the distance in order to work his trips and takedowns. Early in his career Morecraft has shown improvement in his takedown defense, although he’s still susceptible against good wrestlers. Working from top position Morecraft is a tenacious ground and pounder. He’s very aggressive in his activity level, hitting hard and doing well to posture up and rain in a heavy barrage of punches from the top. He utilizes powerful hammer fists and nice straight punches while also showing solid technical skill. Morecraft does show good guard passing abilities as well as competent submissions awareness and defense. His guard game continued to come along, and Morecraft has shown solid potential in his MMA grappling arsenal.
