ANALYSIS
Chris Horodecki is a highly regarded Polish-Canadian lightweight currently competing for the WEC. Horodecki began fighting at a very young age, participating in his first professional fight just days after his eighteenth birthday, and is probably best known for his bouts in the now defunct International Fight League. Despite his young age, Horodecki went 8-1 in the organization racking up victories over the likes of Miletich Fighting Systems product Bart Palaszewski (twice) and Team Quest fighter Ryan Schultz, competed in the finals of the Lightweight Grand Prix, and established himself as one of the brighter up and coming fighters in the sport. Horodecki originally trained with Shawn Tompkins out of London, Ontario but has since followed his trainer to Las Vegas, and now splits his training between his hometown (at the Adrenaline Training Center) and Las Vegas with the members of Xtreme Couture. The dissolution of the IFL and a serious neck injury sidelined Horodecki for the better part of fourteen months, and he's only recently returned to action.

Horodecki's biggest strength lies in his standup abilities. Originally trained under well respected striking coach Shawn Tompkins, Horodecki is an aggressive striker who possesses an exciting brand of standup - pushing forward, throwing lots of punches and showing the willingness to stand in the pocket and trade. Horodecki displays good footwork and nice hands and puts together effective combinations on his feet. In the past, Horodecki's aggressive striking style has left him susceptible to counters as he has does leave himself open to be hit, but he has learned to pick his spots better and has fought with more composure as his career's moved forward. Also, although Horodecki's striking game is good, it is far from world class and he may have trouble dealing with the more athletic and technically refined fighters in the division as was the case in his bout with Anthony Njokuani. Horodecki's overall striking game is very polished for a fighter his age and does show promise, but he'll need to continue putting work in to truly match up with the top strikers in the divison.

While his wrestling and ground games have never been considered a strong point in his game, training with the members of Xtreme Couture Horodecki has shown improvements in his grappling abilities has he's gained experienced. Horodecki has worked hard on improving his takedown defense and has displayed a better sprawl as he's matured but will need to continue working on his grappling and ground skills. Horodecki's loss to Ryan Schultz really highlighted an area of his game that needed to be addressed as he was taken down, controlled, and ate a lot of punches before winding up with his arm tied behind his back and suffering a savage ground and pound knockout loss. Recognizing those holes, Horodecki has worked diligently on improving his overall ground skills and showed off those abilities in his first bout after a lengthy injury absence scoring a very impressive submission win over William Sriyapai. Horodecki will not be able to get by solely on his striking, and his grappling abilities will have a large say in what he's able to achieve long-term so he will need to continue working on that area of his game.
OUTLOOK
Prior to his injury concerns and his loss against Schultz, Horodecki was considered one of the best lightweight prospects on the planet. Still extremely young, he has already beaten a handful of respected fighters and is now training out of an excellent camp in Xtreme Couture. If his injury concerns are behind him and he can continue expanding his MMA arsenal, Horodecki definitely has the talent to develop into a top ten fighter in the division.
