Chris Bennett is a talented lightweight, and part of the next wave of MMA fighters who began their sport-specific training at a very early age. Starting with submission grappling tournaments, Bennett had very encouraging results (three-time Ohio Grappling Championships Gi Champion, three-time Ohio Grappling Championships No-Gi Champion) before forging ahead and beginning his fighting career at the age of seventeen. As an amateur, Bennett enjoyed good success and did go on to become a Big Shot MMA Amateur Lightweight Champion.

Bennett did start out as a grappler and that base shows in his fight make-up as he's very confident in his ground game. Willing to pull guard, Bennett is extremely comfortable off his back where he's armed with an incredibly active, aggressive guard game showing good sweeps and submissions. Bennett has a slick armbar, is constantly searching for submissions and sweeps off his back, and continues training his BJJ with both Sean Hammonds and UFC veteran Jorge Gurgel. From top position he utilizes an aggressive ground and pound game, and his overall MMA ground game appears to be developing nicely.

Bennett isn't afraid of keeping the fight standing where he's shown impressive footwork and the ability to move around very quickly and effortlessly on his feet. A very promising, aggressive striker, Bennett is armed with a good arsenal of high kicks, a nice left straight and an impressive right hook. Bennett is able to deliver powerful leg kicks, good side kicks, and from in close he's shown aggressive clinch skills and the ability to tee off with big knees. A quick athlete blessed with good hand speed, Bennett will need to continue tightening up his defensive skills and refining his overall technique, but his development as a striker is definitely encouraging early on.
