ANALYSIS
A former high school Spanish teacher who might be remembered by fans as being the winner (along with his brother) of the first season of Spike TV's "Pros vs. Joes", Charlie Brenneman is a hardworking welterweight prospect currently making the rounds on the Pennsylvania fight scene. Training at the AMA Fight Club alongside UFC veterans Jim and Dan Miller, Rafaello Oliveira, and Frank Edgar, Brenneman is an intelligent fighter who possesses a solid amateur wrestling base and has shown tremendous resolve early in his career - including coming back from a serious eye injury to resume his fighting career.
Brenneman's wrestling background is apparent when watching him fight as he makes a very concerted effort to try and take the fight to the ground every opportunity he gets. Brenneman isn't an explosive wrestler in the mould of a Josh Koscheck or Georges St. Pierre, but he does have an NCAA Division I wrestling background at Lock Haven University and has shown he can get the fight to the ground by working hard. Brenneman has been particularly impressive from in close where he's displayed impressive Greco-Roman skills early in his career, including nice body lock takedowns and trips from inside the clinch. Brenneman shows good control on the ground and is very active when working his ground and pound from top position. He's a grinder who gets right on his opponents, looking to wear them down with his hard work and workmanlike ground and pound from all angles and effective top control. Brenneman has good cardio, will not stop working on the ground and shows developing BJJ skills and the ability to defend against submissions. Brenneman's been difficult to takedown in his career and even harder to hold on the ground, and with continued work on his technical ground game and submission skills (which should improve leaps and bounds training at the AMA Fight Club), Brenneman should continue developing into a competitive grappler in the welterweight division.
Brenneman is still developing his standup game and will need to continue working on his striking abilities going forward. He has been hurt on his feet in the past and shows a strong preference towards fighting on the ground. His takedowns and style of wrestling is not one that will afford him the luxury always being able to get the takedown and fight from the top, so it is integral that he compliment his ground game with competent skills on his feet.

OUTLOOK
Charlie Brenneman is a hardworking, blue collar kind of fighter with a solid wrestling base and a grinding top game. Brenneman recognizes where he is most effective and looks to take the fight to the ground where he stays active and looks to wear his opponents down. His wrestling alone will not get him to the upper echelons of the weight division and Brenneman will need to continue working on his overall ground skills and standup game, but with continued work "The Spaniard" has a chance to develop into a top fifteen fighter in the division.
