As a country, Brazil has been a major force in the world of mixed martial arts since its inception - churning out countless superstars over the past eighteen years. With that in mind, knowing that Charles Oliveira da Silva might be the country's most promising lightweight fighter really puts into perspective the type of talent the Gold Team member holds. He already possesses a technically sound ground game, rapidly developing ground and pound and standup skills, and had already won two separate eight man tournaments before he had turning even twenty years of age. Loaded with potential, Oliveira holds notable wins over Diego Braga, Eilene Silva, Dom Stanco, Alexandre Bezerra, and Eduardo Pachu and is easily one of the most promising lightweights in all of Brazil.

Deceptively strong, Oliveira has shown he can get the fight to the ground with powerful slams while also displaying nice bodylock takedowns and trips from in close (see bouts with Pachu, Stanco, Braga below). Oliveira is a very slick jiu jitsu player who possesses excellent technical ground skills and a very dangerous submission game. He starts working immediately for submissions upon hitting the ground, and shifts seamlessly between his submissions, transitions and sweep attempts (see bout with Carlos Soares below). Oliveira has a strong top game where he shows good control, beautiful guard passing abilities and a developing ground and pound game. He's a very versatile grappler who is not purely a jiu jitsu practitioner and does not shy away from using his fists on the ground. In fact, Oliveira actually finished five of his first six opponents by KO or TKO and does display promising ground and pound potential to compliment his submission abilities and technical ground skills. Oliveira is also very comfortable fighting off his back where he's shown excellent guard skills, quick hips, beautiful sweeps (see bout with Dom Stanco) and a very active submission game. Oliveira can consistently be put on his back against fighters with good takedowns (see bout with Pachu) and will need to work on defending himself better on the ground with regards to punches, but his overall technical ground skills are excellent and he shows a level of poise and maturity on the ground that is almost unparalleled in fighters his age.

Oliveira is a naturally agile striker who moves well and is quick on his feet. He incorporates lots of kicks into his standup arsenal (very quick high kicks, powerful leg and body kicks) and transitions effortlessly between his grappling and striking. While Oliveira is an aggressive striker who likes to go right after his opponents on the feet, at times he does get careless and will leave himself open to counters. He starts winging wild punches, coming in with his hands down, head up and has shown the propensity to get a little crazy with his strike attempts. Oliveira's approach is encouraging but he's still green on his feet and will need to continue working on polishing off his standup game.
