ANALYSIS
Chan Sung Jung is a Korean featherweight prospect known for his exciting standup and developing MMA game. He's a World Victory Road veteran who competed in Sengoku's inaugural Featherweight Grand-Prix before signing with the WEC in early 2010. A very aggressive fighter, Jung is always pressing the action in his bouts and with continued work has a chance to develop into an elite featherweight fighter.
Jung does have a kickboxing background which he's continued developing at the professional level. He makes no qualms about the fact that he loves striking, and in his early career he's proven to be a very aggressive and exciting fighter. Jung loves to stand and trade punches and he is constantly moving forward even when he's being hit (hence the nickname). Relentless in his aggressiveness, Jung is 100% comfortable with standing in the pocket and exchanging power shots. He possesses a granite chin, good punching power and it's not uncommon to see him simply put his head down and start winging wild power shots. He comes equipped with powerful hooks, a good right cross, and quick, accurate spinning back fists (see bout with Pajonsuk below). Jung effectively works kicks to his opponents' legs and body, and looks to grab the thai plum and tee off with strong knees to the head and body from in close. Not surprisingly he does get a little reckless and leave himself open to counters and will need to work on harnessing his aggressive nature. Having said that, Jung's standup is thoroughly entertaining (see his classic bout with Leonard Garcia as an example) and he does have a chance to develop into one of the most exciting strikers in the division.
Despite the brawling style he displays on his feet, Jung is actually a technically proficient grappler who understands the intricacies of the ground game. He'll look to take advantage of submission attempts or capitalize on positional grappling opportunities when they present themselves, and his submission game is strong enough that he's able to competently defend against or finish on the ground with them. Jung is very active fighting off his back as he opens up his guard, throws lots of punches, and shows nice sweeps, transitions and submissions. Using his fists well on the ground, Jung is an aggressive ground and pounder who has the ability to throw powerful punches and elbows from top position. Although he doesn't really look to take the fight to the mat, Jung has displayed a good sprawl and effective takedown defense. Going forward he'll need to continue working on his takedowns and overall wrestling game - especially competing against the strong wrestlers in North America.

OUTLOOK
Although Jung's brawling style is a little concerning, he does show strong potential throughout his MMA game. He'll need to continue refining his overall skill set, but with the right training and experience Chan Sung Jung has a chance to develop into a top ten fighter, and one of the most exciting competitors in the featherweight division.
