ANALYSIS
Chad Corvin is a very gifted heavyweight prospect known for his raw power and heavy hands. Corvin is blessed with an excellent set of natural tools, and if he can continue refining his technical skills has the potential to develop into a force in the heavyweight division. Standing 6'5" tall and already weighing in at 250 pounds, Corvin possesses a very large frame and legitimate size as a heavyweight, and at twenty three years of age is likely not done filling out his body just yet. Corvin is a good athlete whose raw potential is very apparent on his feet as he's equipped with heavy hands, considerable knockout power and fights with tremendous aggression, which has resulted in a number of his fights ending suddenly and in brutal fashion (see bout with Rico Hattingh below). Technically speaking, Corvin does have a tendency to get a little reckless with his striking, leaves himself open to counters and has been caught and hurt in the past (see bout with Westbeld) and will need to continue refining his overall techniques and learning to harness his aggressive nature. Corvin's natural striking abilities are very good but if he isn't able to compliment them with the proper technical skills he will have considerable trouble dealing with strong counter punchers and the more technically proficient strikers in the divisions.
Although Corvin doesn't have the collegiate wrestling background that many in the sport do, he was heavily recruited in high school by both NCAA D-1 and D-2 school but didn't (or couldn't) compete at the collegiate level due to academic reasons. He is a strong wrestler who's shown he's capable of getting the fight to the ground where he displays good ground control and exciting ground and pound potential. Corvin is very aggressive on the ground with his striking and has shown he can deliver an effective ground attack from top position (see fights with CJ McVey and William Bennett). His submissions skills and jiu jitsu game remain untested, and much like his striking Corvin will need to continue working on tightening up his technical ground skills. Corvin is still quite raw but has thoroughly impressed early in his career and already holds an absolutely brutal knockout win over respected South African BJJ sylist Rico Hattingh. With continued work he has a chance to develop into a very good, well rounded fighter.

OUTLOOK
Chad Corvin will need to harness his strength and natural skills, but just a year into his pro career is likely only scratching the surface of what his true potential holds. Corvin is still extremely raw and much of his game is still very unproven, but his size, strength and raw tools are undeniable. Only twenty three years of age, Corvin has the potential to develop into an all-around force and has a chance to develop into a top ten heavyweight.
