A former wrestling star at Methuen High School, Calvin Kattar is a fast rising Massachusetts prospect who fights in the lightweight division. Kattar turned his attention to mixed martial arts after taking a semester off from college, and once his competitive juices began flowing he committed himself to his training and hasn't looked back since. He's a naturally athletic fighter who's shown good heart, dedication to his craft, and determination early in his career. Known for pushing a very high pace and actively attempting to finish, Kattar is an exciting fighter who tries his best not to leave the fight in the hands of the judges. Kattar has a great attitude and has chosen to be patient and not rush his development, qualities which bode well for his continued progression as a fighter.

Although he does come from a wrestling base, Kattar has definitely shown a preference to keep the fight standing and settle the outcome with his striking. A composed fighter on his feet, Kattar's impressively displayed natural boxing instincts and progressed at a very good rate as a striker. Kattar will work his jab effectively, has a nice cross, and throws a good uppercut to change the angle of his punches and keep his opponent honest. He'll work the both the head and body nicely with his punching, throws a nice "one-two" combination and is armed with fast hands and very respectable power in his right hand. To compliment his boxing, Kattar's also shown promise with his close game and the competency to look for the thai clinch quickly, where he can load up with a quick barrage of powerful knees. Although he's still young and developing, Kattar's displayed good defensive skills and chosen not to be a "brawler" in his fighting style. His progress early in his career is very encouraging, and he's shown the capacity to develop into a very strong striker with more time to refine his technique.

Beginning his career at a very early, Kattar might not have the collegiate background that some of his peers do but he does enter the sport with a solid high school wrestling pedigree. Early on he's shown a quick sprawl and good takedown defense. Although he prefers to keep the fight standing, Kattar is capable of taking his opponent to the ground with a nice assortment of takedowns and throws. Athletically gifted, Kattar controls his opponent well on the ground where he is able to explode with punches if he's not properly controlled when on top. Kattar will need to continue working on his BJJ, submission, and overall ground skills as those still remain untested and should play a pivotal role in his future in the division.
