ANALYSIS
Bryan Baker has enjoyed a very successful start to his MMA career. Since turning pro in 2007, he has reeled off wins in eleven of his first twelve bouts and already holds notable wins over Eric Schambari, Art Santore, and UFC veterans Jesse Forbes, Rory Singer and Matt Horwich. Baker is a good athlete who has progressed quite nicely in his early career, and currently trains alongside veteran Thomas Denny as part of the Team Wildman Vale Tudo fight team.

Best known for his abilities on his feet, Baker is an athletically gifted fighter who's speed, quickness and explosiveness is apparent in his striking - although it isn't all that refined just yet. Baker has an assortment of heavy leg kicks and body kicks that he effectively works into his repertoire (see bout with Art Santore), to compliment his good hand speed, solid chin and sound punching power. Baker is an aggressive all-around fighter who is constantly pressing forward and is not afraid to take a punch to try and make something happen on his feet. At time he will get careless with his striking, and Baker will really need to work on improving his technique and defensive skills in order to match up with the elite middleweights in the world. Baker's athleticism and raw striking potential is excellent, and he would likely benefit greatly if given an opportunity to work with some of the better striking coaches in the sport (Shawn Tompkins, Mark DellaGrotte, Howard Davis Jr., etc.)

Baker is definitely most dangerous when the fight is kept standing, but has shown good grappling instincts and the potential to develop into a good fighter on the ground. Although Baker does possess a junior collegiate wrestling background, he doesn't really incorporate many takedowns into his MMA game and his overall wrestling abilities wouldn't be considered a strong suit early in his career. Baker has been susceptible to the takedown and will need to continue working on improving his sprawl and takedown defense. Baker is very active fighting off his back and has shown good potential in his guard game as his career's progressed. He possesses a good knowledge of submissions and a sneaky submission game, and given his long limbs is particularly effective at searching for triangles off his back (see bouts with Santore, Schambari). Baker has worked hard since improving his abilities off his back since a Chael Sonnen loss highlighted a major hole in his game, and will need to continue doing so moving forward. Baker is always working for something on the ground and will look to pass guard from the top, in addition to displaying powerful punches, hammer fists, and strong ground and pound potential (see bout with Rory Singer below). Baker's ground game still lacks polish; he will get sloppy at times and will need work on his ground control, wrestling and BJJ in order to continue refining his overall ground skills. An excellent athlete, Baker's also displays promising instincts on the ground and would really benefit from training with a strong grappling camp that could make the most of his natural tools.
OUTLOOK
Bryan Baker is a good athlete who has enjoyed a very encouraging start to his MMA career. He already holds wins over some solid veterans, and he's faced fairly solid competition through his first two years in the sport (one one fighter he's faced has a sub .500 record, and that was in his pro debut). No disrespect to the members of Team Wildman, but Baker would really benefit by branching out his training and getting a chance to work with some of the better camps in the world. Baker is still very raw and will need to continue improving his technical skills across the board, but it's very encouraging how successful a start he's had to his career in spite of that. The raw tools are there, and with continued work Baker does have top ten - fifteen potential at middleweight.
