ANALYSIS
Part of the Ze Mario MMA team, Bruno Santos is a middleweight fighter currently competing in Brazil. In his early career he has quickly earned a reputation for his wrestling abilities, ground and pound and excellent conditioning, and is one of the top middleweight prospects currently fighting in Brazil. Holding wins over Eder Jones and M-1 veteran Danilo Pereira, Santos is a very talented prospect whose continued success will surely find him signed to one of the larger promotions in the sport.

What makes Santos' ground game so intriguing is that not only is he a technically sound jiu jitsu player with a good understanding of submissions, he's also a very good wrestler with strong ground and pound capabilities from top position. The combination of those skills is even more interesting given that he is Brazilian, and unlike many fighters competing overseas his style of fighting is very well suited to the North American MMA game. Santos is a strong, stocky fighter much in the same mould of a Paulo Filho (although he is not nearly as big and may be better suited for the welterweight division) who drives through opponents with powerful double legs, big slams and is able to muscle fighters to the ground. He's a "power" grappler on the ground who stays very tight to his opponent displaying good top control, and although he will look to pass guard and transition he really likes making use of his ground and pound from the top. A naturally powerful striker, Santos can really bring it with strong punches on the ground and is very effective at working both the head and body of his opponents' while remaining composed and not getting wild with his punching. Santos shows good submission defense and is very comfortable and effective when operating from inside his opponents guard. Santos has also proven very difficult to takedown and even more difficult to control on the ground, and given the promise he shows in his wrestling and ground and pound, combined with his competent BJJ game Santos has the potential to develop into a complete, well rounded MMA grappler.

Santos exhibits composure in all areas of his game and does well in his standup to avoid getting wild or to start brawling. He looks to counter on his feet and he prefers to have his opponent come to him where he can either counter strike or drop down for a takedown attempt. Santos is a powerful puncher who is equipped with heavy leg kicks and a strong right cross, but will need to continue proving his worth on his feet. He's still much more comfortable in taking the fight to the mat and will need to continue working on his standup to fully round out his game.
OUTLOOK
Bruno Santos' is a very intriguing middleweight prospect given his wrestling, BJJ, and ground and pound potential. He's still a little green and will need to continue piecing his game together, but given his age and experience there's still considerable room for growth and he does have top ten potential as a fighter.
