The Polish MMA scene has grown significantly in the last few years, and Artur Sowinski has emerged as one of the brighter young lightweights to come out of the country. He's spent the first three years of his career fighting out of Europe and has earned a reputation for his grappling prowess and developing standup game. Training out of the Silesian Cage Club, Sowinski will need to continue working on his overall skills but does display potential in multiple areas of his MMA game.

Although he has displayed well rounded abilities, Sowinski's been most effective early on when he's been fighting on the ground. Still developing his wrestling skills, he has shown the ability to get the fight to the ground but his takedowns have not been overwhelming and will need continued focus as he moves on in his career. On the ground Sowinski is a crafty grappler who's displayed good technical ground skills and a slick submission game through his first eight professional fights. From top position he stays very tight to his opponent, controls them relatively well, and shows sound guard passing abilities. Sowinski strings together submission attempts fluently and in rapid succession and has won the vast majority of his early bouts via tapout. Sowinski also shows developing ground and pound abilities and will look to load up with big punches from inside his opponents guard when he's given the opportunity. He also uses his ground strikes very effectively in opening up submission and positional opportunities on the ground, and his overall ground and pound, BJJ, and submissions games flow well between each other. Comfortable operating off his back, Sowinski will pull guard if he feels it's to his benefit although he has been much more effective operating from top position in his early MMA career. Fellow lightweight prospect Marcin Held was able to control him on the ground, pass his guard and had the young Pole mounted multiple times in their fight. Sowinski's wrestling abilities don't indicate that he'll be able to completely avoid being put on his back against the stronger wrestlers in the division, and he'll need to continue working on his guard skills in addition to refining his overall ground game as he works his way up the ranks of the lightweight division.

While his overall striking game is still coming together, Sowinski has shown steady improvements in his technical skills and the mentality necessary for developing into a competent MMA striker. He has an intelligent approach and shows strong composure in his standup, but is also not afraid to engage on the feet if and when he feels he needs to. Sowinski is blessed with good speed and quickness and has quick reflexes and the ability to get his strikes off rapidly. With good handspeed and powerful high kicks (see second highlight video below), Sowinski is equipped to handle himself nicely on his feet and has finished fights with his striking in the past. Overall Sowinski's standup abilities lack polish and are still a work in progress, but he appears to be heading in the right direction towards developing into a well rounded lightweight MMA fighter.
