ANALYSIS
Known for his dynamic athletic abilities, Alex Garcia is a fantastic raw talent competing at 170 pounds. The Dominican native makes his training out of the Tristar Gym in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as part of the Zahabi MMA fight team. One of the largest fighters in the division, Garcia is recognized for his massive size-power characteristics and punishing takedown game.

Although his technical wrestling game remains a work in progress, Garcia is armed with a lightning quick entry shot and explosive driving power. He’s capable of blasting through opposing fighters, securing power doubles and thunderous slams in the process. Controlling his opponents admirably from top position, Garcia will look to posture up and inflict a heavy striking assault. He’s capable of landing powerful punches and hammer fists with very little separation, and overall holds immense potential in his ground and pound game. Given that ability, it’s encouraging to note that Garcia isn’t complacent sitting in his opponents guard and will actively look to improve his position. He’ll try to get to side control by utilizing power guard passing techniques, and he’s shown burgeoning potential in his power submission game. As a top position stylist, Garcia will need to work on his guard. He’s encountered trouble working off his back, and will need to learn to effectively control opponents’ posture and continue making strides in his BJJ and submissions pedigrees.

Garcia’s natural gifts are quickly prevalent standing. He’s blessed with good quickness, agility as well as impressive hand speed and raw power. Technically he has shown considerable progress in both his footwork and striking arsenal. He throws a quick jab, a good right cross, and an excellent left hook. His kicks are delivered quickly and smoothly to the head, legs, or body of opposing fighters. Most impressively, Garcia has shown nice fluidity between his kicks and punches. Under the training of Firas Zahabi, Garcia’s technical skills have come along nicely as he’s shown composure, and enough comfort to attempt techniques such as spinning back fists and flying knees. Although he’ll occasionally begin swinging wildly, Garcia’s raw power, natural athleticism, and technical progression suggest he’s capable of developing into a very strong MMA striker.
OUTLOOK
Alex Garcia is a tremendously gifted fighter with massive power potential at welterweight. Athletically Garcia’s capable of excelling in all facets of mixed martial arts, and if his technical skills ever catch up to his natural talents he’d settle in as an impact top ten welterweight.
