ANALYSIS
A TUF 12 veteran, Alex Caceres is known for his creative fighting style which is heavily influenced by martial arts movies he enjoyed growing up. Always looking to finish, Caceres chooses to focus on his submissions and striking instead of looking for strategic advantages through rigorous game planning.
Caceres is a BJJ stylist who will have to work on his wrestling abilities. He’s very active once the fight hits the mat, showing competent guard skills and an active submission game. He’s very quick at manoeuvring his hips/legs, and defends against having his guard passed well. Caceres is constantly threatening with submissions and sweeps, and keeps his opposition on alert anytime the fight’s on the mat. From a wrestling standpoint he’s still quite undersized at 155 and can be pushed around and muscled to the mat. Although Caceres does a commendable job of trying to finish, he does leave himself open to being taken down and losing “points” throughout the match.
Standing, Caceres is a very confident striker. Although he isn’t known for his power, he has displayed excellent speed and quickness early in his fighting career. His attack is quite diverse, with Caceres incorporating a variety of techniques into his arsenal. Long and lean, Caceres possesses good reach and a dangerous kicking game. He throws very quick low kicks, back kicks and high kicks, while also confidently wading in with flashier techniques such as jumping switch kicks. Caceres is strong in the clinch, and offensively he is a gifted striker. He’s also capable of taking a punch and not afraid to engage, becoming noted for fighting with a smile on his face (literally). Defensively Caceres has work to do as he can be bullied and pressed up against the cage. He also has a tendency to keep his hands low and will need to shore up his defensive standup abilities. Due to those defensive shortcomings, Caceres is often forced into playing the role of counter striker which takes away from much of his repertoire.

OUTLOOK
Alex Caceres is a talented, marketable lightweight competitor. Stylistically, he’s a striker-submission hybrid fighter who’s confident in his abilities regardless of where the fight is being contested. His wrestling and defensive abilities remain shortcomings, although his age/experience would suggest that there remains plenty of room for improvement. Caceres is capable of developing into a top fifteen fighter with more training.
