ANALYSIS
Born in Iraq and raised and trained in Stuttgart, Germany, Alan Omer is a promising mixed martial artist currently competing in the featherweight division. Unlike many fighters, Omer got a very late start to his MMA training. He only began training in 2005 at the age of seventeen, and only really dedicated himself to the sport after winning his first fight in 2006. Since then he's progressed at a very rapid pace and did capture the BAMMA Featherweight Championship after training for only five years. Omer is a very intelligent, articulate and analytical mixed martial artist who fights with intelligence but also looks to perform impressively. He loves the challenge of competing and will look to test himself above his natural weight class to do so.
Omer is very comfortable on his feet where he shows a composed striking game and the ability to easily switch between an orthodox and southpaw stance. Like much of his game, Omer's standup has progressed at a tremendous rate and he shows continuously improving abilities in his striking. He's a very quick, aggressive striker who's constantly moving forward on his feet and looking to make things happen. His footwork is very good and he shows the aptitude to move around very rapidly and effortlessly while standing. While he isn't known for his punching power, Omer does come equipped with good reach, very fast hands, an effective jab, and a nice left hook and right cross. He also possesses a good arsenal of kicks including quick leg kicks and high kicks, good spinning back kicks and the ability to deliver quick knees from in close, and overall Omer shows good variety in his striking attack. Alan effectively uses his footwork, reach and quickness to keep an effective range from his opponents and shows the defensive mindset to keep his guard up while on his feet. Although his technical skills have progressed at a rapid rate, by no means is Omer a complacent striker. While he can be patient and methodical in his approach, Omer is equally capable of barging in and opening up with a quick, efficient barrage of kicks, punches and knees on his feet and his approach - like his technical skills, is far from being one dimensional.
Omer is very strong from the top where he shows good guard passing abilities and a strong ground and pound game. He effectively uses his long reach to land big, accurate punches from the top and loves using his fists to soften opponents up on the ground. His striking on the ground is not strictly confined to what he can do from the top, and Omer's punching needs to be respects from all positions on the ground including when he's fighting off his back. An area of Omer's grappling arsenal that will require work is his takedown defense. Omer doesn't have an amateur wrestling background and can be put on his back and controlled by competent wrestlers. He's still a little green off his back where his guard can be passed (a little too easily at times) and to that end he'll need to work on tightening up his positional guard game. Nevertheless, Omer does show promise in his guard game as he remains very active fighting from the bottom. He likes working a high guard and is blessed with long limb and quick hips making him particularly dangerous with triangle and armbar attempts. Overall Omer does possess solid submission skills, both offensively and defensively, and his BJJ and sub skills are developing at a very nice pace. One of the most impressive aspects of Omer's ground game is the technical approach he takes and how active he remains all the time. Omer is constantly working from all positions and the resulting outcomes speak for themselves (he rarely goes to decisions).

OUTLOOK
Alan Omer's developing ground game and poor takedown defense could definitely be cause for concern. Having said that however, he's still in the very early stages of his MMA development and he's already proven to be an intelligent fighter who's displayed a remarkable learning curve early in his career. He shows potential in all areas of his game and possesses the mental fortitude and raw talent necessary to succeed in this sport. Omer has definite top ten potential at featherweight.
